“The Ghazal King” - Jagjit Singh dies

Jagjit Singh,  most prominent Gazal singer, Composer and music director, Popularly known as “The Gazal King” (Gazal Samrat) in Jagjit-Singh_1Hindi  Cinema, died Monday after a brain hemorrhage at the age of 70. He was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital on Sep 23rd after he suffered brain hemorrhage.

He was the first Indian composer and the first recording artist in the history of Indian music to use digital multi-track recording for album “Beyond Time” (1987). A Padma Bhusan award recipient
, Jagjit Singh has sung from many popular Hindi Films. He had also sung in several languages, including Nepali, Urdu, Punjabi and Gujarati.


His timless hits includes, “Kal chaudhavin ki raat”, “Honthon se chhoo lo tum”, “Koi ye kaise bataaye”, “Woh kaagaz ki kashti”, “Chitthi na koi sandesh”, “Tum itna jo muskura rahe ho”, “Yeh daulat bhi le lo, yeh shohrat bhi le lo”, “Tumko dekha toh ye khayal aaya”, “jhuki jhuki si nazar”, “Shaam se aankh mein namin si hai:, “Badi nazuk hai”, “Hoshwaalon ko khabar kya”and “Kiska chehra” to name a few.

Jagjit Singh also has  a contribution in Nepali Music. He had recorded one Nepali musical album named “Samyog” with Alok Shree . Some of his Nepali hit numbers are “Kun maya sadar bho”. “Jhulkeko Gham”, “Kasto maya dekhi aaja”, “Tyo din tyo raat ko milan” and "Ekai chinko samyog pani".
